Product Details
Epinum Cream 30gm is a topical anesthetic cream formulated with lidocaine and prilocaine, both of which are amide-type local anesthetics. When applied to the skin, Epinum Cream works by releasing these active ingredients into the epidermal and dermal layers, providing effective dermal anesthesia. This process stabilizes neuronal membranes, inhibiting the ionic fluxes necessary for initiating and conducting nerve impulses, resulting in localized numbness. The effectiveness of the anesthesia depends on the duration of application and the dosage used.
Purposes
Epinum Cream is primarily used to numb the skin before medical procedures, such as injections, blood tests, and minor skin surgeries. It is suitable for use in adults, adolescents, and children. In adults, Epinum Cream can also be applied to the genital area before procedures like wart removal or injections. Additionally, it is used to numb the skin before cleaning or removing damaged skin from leg ulcers.
Warnings
When applying Epinum Cream, especially around the eyes, extra care is needed due to the potential for eye irritation. If the cream accidentally comes into contact with the eyes, they should be rinsed immediately with water or a sodium chloride solution to prevent corneal damage. In patients with atopic dermatitis, a shorter application time of 15-30 minutes is recommended to reduce the risk of local vascular reactions, such as redness or petechiae. Patients on class III anti-arrhythmic medications like amiodarone should be closely monitored, as Epinum Cream may have additive cardiac effects. Additionally, due to limited data on absorption, the cream should not be applied to open wounds, except for leg ulcers.
Adverse Effects
Common side effects of Epinum Cream include redness, slight swelling, or pale skin at the application site, which typically resolves quickly. Less common side effects may include a mild burning or itching sensation, tingling, or small red dots on the skin. Rarely, mild allergic reactions such as rash or swelling may occur. If the cream accidentally gets into the eyes, it may cause irritation.
Cautions
Before using Epinum Cream, inform your healthcare provider if you have any known allergies to lidocaine, prilocaine, or other local anesthetics. It is also important to avoid applying the cream to open wounds, apart from leg ulcers. If you have atopic dermatitis, a shorter application time is recommended to minimize adverse reactions. Always store Epinum Cream at room temperature, away from direct light and heat, and consult your physician before using this medication if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
