Product Details
Betnesol Tablets contain betamethasone, a corticosteroid used for its anti-inflammatory properties. It is commonly prescribed to treat conditions such as bronchial asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, and other inflammatory disorders. Betnesol works by stabilizing lysosomes in neutrophils to prevent degranulation and inflammatory responses, making it effective in managing inflammation-related conditions.

Side Effects

Prolonged treatment with high doses may cause:
- Subcapsular cataracts, skin thinning, osteoporosis, and glaucoma
- Aseptic osteonecrosis, particularly of the femoral head
- Suppression of the HPA axis

- Weight gain, fluid retention, increased blood pressure, and mood changes.
Drug Interactions
- Live vaccines, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, diuretics, erythromycin, rifamycin, amphotericin, azole antifungals, ritonavir, cyclosporine, and cardiac glycosides may interact with Betnesol Tablets.
- Oestrogens, oral contraceptives, and anti-epileptics like carbamazepine or phenytoin may also interact.
Warnings
- Infection risks: Corticosteroids can impair the body's ability to resist infection, especially in patients with a history of tuberculosis.
- Pituitary-adrenal axis suppression: Long-term use can reduce the body's ability to respond to stress, potentially causing insufficiency even after discontinuing therapy.
- Elderly caution: Long-term corticosteroid therapy in elderly patients should be carefully planned due to increased risk of osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, infections, and skin thinning.
Precautions
- Steroid psychosis or peptic ulceration history requires caution.
- Elderly patients may experience more serious side effects from prolonged corticosteroid use.
