Product Details

Esorid Capsules 40mg contain Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by irreversibly binding to the H+/K+ ATPase in the proton pump. This action significantly reduces the secretion of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, thereby altering gastric pH and providing relief from acid-related conditions.

Purposes

Esorid Capsules 40mg are indicated for the treatment of heartburn, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastritis, and ulcers. By decreasing stomach acid production, these capsules help alleviate symptoms associated with these conditions, promoting healing and preventing further damage to the stomach lining.

Warnings

  1. Hypomagnesemia: Prolonged treatment with PPIs like Esorid Capsules 40mg has rarely been associated with low magnesium levels in the blood. Monitoring is advised during long-term use.

  2. Risk of Fractures: Long-term or high-dose therapy may increase the risk of osteoporosis-related fractures, particularly of the hip, wrist, or spine. Patients should use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration necessary.

  3. Clopidogrel Interaction: Avoid concomitant use of Esomeprazole with clopidogrel, as this may reduce the effectiveness of clopidogrel.

Adverse Effects

Common side effects of Esorid Capsules 40mg include headaches, gastrointestinal upset, dry mouth, and skin reactions. In rare cases, serious reactions such as angioedema, anaphylaxis, and fundic gland polyps may occur. Always consult a healthcare provider if any unusual symptoms are experienced.

Cautions

Long-term daily use of Esorid Capsules 40mg, particularly for more than three years, may lead to malabsorption or deficiency of cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12). Patients should be regularly monitored, and vitamin supplementation may be necessary. Always consult a physician before starting or stopping the medication, especially during pregnancy.
