Product Details
Persch 4 mg Tablets contain Risperidone, a potent atypical antipsychotic used in the treatment of schizophrenia. Although the exact mechanism of action remains unclear, risperidone is believed to exert its therapeutic effects through the antagonism of dopamine Type 2 (D2) and serotonin Type 2 (5HT2) receptors in the brain. This helps to stabilize mood, reduce hallucinations, and manage the symptoms of schizophrenia effectively. The clinical efficacy of Persch is further enhanced by its active metabolite, 9-hydroxyrisperidone (paliperidone).
Purposes
Persch 4 mg Tablets are primarily indicated for the treatment of:
- Schizophrenia: Effective in reducing both the positive symptoms (such as hallucinations and delusions) and negative symptoms (such as social withdrawal and lack of motivation) associated with schizophrenia.
Warnings
- Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS): A rare but potentially life-threatening condition characterized by high fever, muscle rigidity, and altered mental status. Immediate medical attention is necessary if these symptoms arise.
- Tardive Dyskinesia: Long-term use of antipsychotics, including Persch, may lead to involuntary, repetitive movements that can become irreversible. Regular monitoring for early signs is crucial.
- Metabolic Changes: Atypical antipsychotics, including Persch, may cause metabolic side effects like hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and significant weight gain, which could increase cardiovascular and cerebrovascular risks.

- Cerebrovascular Adverse Events: Including stroke, especially in elderly patients with dementia.
