Product Details

Revoc Tablets 1mg contain risperidone, an antipsychotic medication primarily used to treat schizophrenia. While the exact mechanism of action is not fully understood, it is believed that Revoc Tablets work by antagonizing dopamine Type 2 (D2) and serotonin Type 2 (5HT2) receptors in the brain. This action helps manage symptoms of schizophrenia, such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganized thinking. The clinical effects of Revoc Tablets are the result of the combined action of risperidone and its major metabolite, 9-hydroxyrisperidone (paliperidone).

Purposes

Revoc Tablets are indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia. This medication is designed to help manage the symptoms associated with this mental health condition, including thought disturbances, emotional withdrawal, and lack of motivation. Revoc Tablets help restore the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain, leading to improved mood, behavior, and overall functioning.

Warnings

Patients using Revoc Tablets should be aware of several important warnings. Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (NMS), a potentially fatal condition, has been reported with the use of antipsychotic drugs, including risperidone. Symptoms of NMS include high fever, muscle stiffness, and altered mental status. Additionally, tardive dyskinesia, a syndrome of potentially irreversible involuntary movements, may develop with long-term use of Revoc Tablets. Another significant concern is the risk of metabolic changes such as hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, and weight gain, which can increase the risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events.

Adverse Effects

Common adverse effects of Revoc Tablets include increased mortality in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis, cerebrovascular events like stroke, and the potential development of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome. Other side effects may include tardive dyskinesia, metabolic changes, hyperprolactinemia, orthostatic hypotension, falls, leukopenia, neutropenia, and agranulocytosis. Patients may also experience cognitive and motor impairment, seizures, difficulty swallowing, and disruptions in body temperature regulation. Additionally, those with phenylketonuria should exercise caution when using this medication.

Cautions

Before starting Revoc Tablets, it is crucial to discuss any history of allergies to risperidone, paliperidone, or other antipsychotic medications with your healthcare provider. Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis have an increased risk of death when treated with antipsychotic drugs. Close monitoring is necessary for those at risk of metabolic changes or those with a history of seizures. Always store Revoc Tablets at room temperature, away from direct light and heat, and consult your physician if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
