Product Details
Serloft Tablets 100mg contain Sertraline HCl, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that enhances the activity of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that plays a key role in mood regulation. By inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, Sertraline increases its availability in the brain, helping alleviate symptoms associated with mood disorders.
Purpose
Serloft Tablets are prescribed for the treatment of the following conditions:
- Major Depressive Disorder (MDD): Helps manage symptoms of persistent low mood, loss of interest, and emotional instability.
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): Reduces compulsive behaviors and obsessive thoughts.
- Panic Disorder (PD): Assists in managing sudden attacks of intense fear or discomfort.
Warnings
- Serotonin Syndrome: The use of Sertraline HCl, particularly when combined with other serotonergic drugs, may result in serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by agitation, hallucinations, rapid heart rate, and high blood pressure.
- Increased Risk of Bleeding: Serloft may increase the risk of bleeding, especially when used alongside aspirin, NSAIDs, or anticoagulants like warfarin.
- Hyponatremia: Treatment with SSRIs, including Sertraline, may cause dangerously low sodium levels (hyponatremia), potentially leading to confusion, seizures, and coma.
Adverse Effects
Common side effects include:
- Hypersensitivity reactions
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviors
- Serotonin syndrome
- Mania or hypomania
- Discontinuation syndrome (withdrawal symptoms when stopping the medication)
- Seizures
- Increased risk of bleeding
- QT prolongation and heart rhythm irregularities, especially when combined with specific medications
- Hyponatremia (low sodium levels)
- Angle-closure glaucoma
If any of these effects persist or worsen, it is essential to consult your healthcare provider immediately.
Cautions
- Drug Interactions: Serloft may interact with multiple medications, including MAO inhibitors, other SSRIs, SNRIs, tricyclic antidepressants, anticoagulants, and certain heart medications. Inform your healthcare provider of any other drugs or supplements you are taking.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Use during pregnancy, especially late pregnancy, may increase the risk of complications for the newborn. Consult your physician if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
- Alcohol: Avoid alcohol consumption while on this medication, as it may exacerbate side effects such as drowsiness or dizziness.
- Discontinuation: Do not stop taking Serloft abruptly without consulting your doctor, as this may result in withdrawal symptoms.
Storage
Store Serloft Tablets at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keep out of the reach of children and ensure that the medication is stored in its original packaging to maintain its effectiveness.
