Claritek 50mL Suspension contains the active ingredient Clarithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic known for its effectiveness in treating bacterial infections. This suspension formulation makes it easy to administer, particularly for children and those who have difficulty swallowing tablets. Claritek works by binding to bacterial ribosomes and inhibiting protein synthesis, which prevents bacterial growth and leads to the elimination of infections.

Purposes

Claritek Suspension is indicated for the treatment of a wide variety of bacterial infections. It is commonly prescribed for respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia, as well as for sinusitis and pharyngitis. Additionally, Claritek is effective in treating skin and soft tissue infections and certain mycobacterial infections, making it a versatile antibiotic.

Warnings

• Renal Insufficiency: Use with caution in patients suffering from severe renal impairment. Dosage adjustments of Suspension may be necessary in such cases.
• Hepatic Dysfunction: There have been reports of liver dysfunction, including hepatitis and jaundice, in patients using Clarithromycin. If symptoms such as jaundice, abdominal pain, or dark urine appear, stop using Claritek immediately and consult a healthcare professional.
• Severe Liver Failure: Rare but serious cases of liver failure have occurred, particularly in patients with pre-existing liver conditions or those taking other medications. Discontinue use if symptoms of liver damage occur.

Adverse Effects

Possible side effects of Claritek Suspension include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal discomfort, and headaches. Some patients may experience more serious allergic reactions, such as skin rashes, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, or toxic epidermal necrolysis. Rarely, Claritek can cause hearing loss or taste and smell disturbances, usually reversible after discontinuing the medication. It has also been linked to QT prolongation and ventricular arrhythmias in some cases.

Cautions

Use of Claritek 50mL Suspension should be carefully monitored in pregnant women, especially in the first trimester.
