Product Details

Getryl Tablets 1 mg contain glimepiride, a medication designed to help manage blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This medication works primarily by stimulating the pancreatic beta cells to produce more insulin and enhancing the effectiveness of peripheral insulin receptors. While Getryl effectively lowers blood glucose, the exact mechanism of its long-term action remains not fully understood.

Purposes

Getryl Tablets are prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is not intended for use in type-1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.

Warnings

Getryl should be used with caution in individuals with glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, as it may cause hemolytic anemia. Additionally, there is a potential increased risk of cardiovascular mortality associated with sulfonylureas, which should be communicated to patients. Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis and Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, have been reported; if any such reactions occur, Getryl should be promptly discontinued, and alternative treatment should be considered.

Adverse Effects

Common side effects of Getryl include hypoglycemia, dizziness, asthenia, headache, and nausea. Gastrointestinal issues such as vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea have also been reported but occur less frequently. Rare side effects may include elevations in liver enzyme levels and dermatologic reactions like pruritus and erythema.

Cautions

Severe hypoglycemia can occur with Getryl, so careful patient selection and dosing are essential, particularly for the elderly or those with renal impairment. Abrupt discontinuation should be avoided to prevent increased seizure frequency. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting Getryl to ensure it is appropriate for your condition and to receive proper dosing instructions.
