Product Details
Glusimet 50/1000 mg Tablet combines two effective antidiabetic agents, Sitagliptin and Metformin, to manage type 2 diabetes. Glusimet works by enhancing the levels of incretin hormones, which helps increase insulin release and lower blood sugar levels. Metformin, a biguanide, improves glucose tolerance and reduces blood sugar both before and after meals. This dual-action formula is designed to provide comprehensive glycemic control without causing hypoglycemia.
Purposes
Glusimet 50/1000 mg is prescribed for managing type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is particularly useful when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to control blood glucose levels. This medication is also effective as an adjunct to other diabetes treatments, either Metformin or Sitagliptin alone, to further improve glycemic control.
Warnings
Glusimet should be used with caution in patients with hepatic dysfunction, as there is a risk of lactic acidosis. Regular monitoring of liver function and serum creatinine is recommended. The combination of Glusimet with sulphonylureas or insulin may increase the risk of hypoglycemia, necessitating dose adjustments. Additionally, patients should be monitored for symptoms of pancreatitis; discontinuation of the medication should occur if pancreatitis is suspected.
Adverse Effects
The most common side effect of Glusimet 50/1000 mg is nausea. Less common side effects include somnolence, diarrhea, upper abdominal pain, and decreased blood glucose levels. While rare, serious adverse effects such as lactic acidosis and pancreatitis should be monitored closely.
Cautions
Before starting Glusimet, inform your doctor if you have kidney issues, as the medication is substantially excreted by the kidneys. Regular monitoring of kidney function is crucial to prevent complications like lactic acidosis. Additionally, avoid use if you have a known hypersensitivity to Sitagliptin or Metformin. Ensure that your doctor is aware of all your current medications and health conditions to prevent any adverse interactions or effects.
