Product Details:
Glyzia Met combines two potent agents, Sitagliptin and Metformin, in a single tablet. Sitagliptin enhances glucose control by increasing and prolonging active incretin levels, which boosts insulin release and lowers glucagon levels in a glucose-dependent manner. Metformin, a biguanide, helps reduce blood glucose levels by improving insulin sensitivity and decreasing glucose production in the liver. This combination ensures effective management of type 2 diabetes without inducing hypoglycemia.
Purposes:
Glyzia Met is used for:
- Initial Therapy: To improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes who have not achieved adequate control with diet and exercise alone.
- Adjunct Therapy: To enhance glycemic control in patients inadequately controlled on Metformin or Sitagliptin alone, or those already on a combination of these medications.
Warnings:
- Hepatic Function: Avoid using Glyzia Met in patients with hepatic disease or significant liver impairment, as this may increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
- Hypoglycemia Risk: Patients combining Glyzia Met with sulphonylureas or insulin may experience an increased risk of hypoglycemia. Dose adjustments may be necessary to mitigate this risk.
- Pancreatitis: Monitor patients closely for signs of pancreatitis after starting Glyzia Met. If symptoms of pancreatitis occur, discontinue the medication and seek appropriate treatment immediately.
Adverse Effects:
- Common: Nausea.
- Uncommon: Somnolence, diarrhea, upper abdominal pain, and reduced blood glucose levels.
Cautions:
- Renal Function: Glyzia Met is excreted primarily through the kidneys. Regular monitoring of serum creatinine levels is essential to avoid lactic acidosis, particularly in patients with renal insufficiency.
- Allergies and Sensitivities: Do not use if you are hypersensitive to Sitagliptin, Metformin, or any component of the tablet.
- Type 1 Diabetes: Glyzia Met is not suitable for patients with type 1 diabetes or those with acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including ketoacidosis with or without coma.
Storage:
Store Glyzia Met at room temperature, away from direct light and heat. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Pregnancy Category:
Consult your physician before using Glyzia Met if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
