Product Details
Paromax Tablets 20mg contain paroxetine hydrochloride, an antidepressant that belongs to the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) class. This medication works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, helping to restore balance in mood-related neurotransmitters. Tablets are commonly used for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and other mood disorders.
Purposes
The primary purpose of Tablets is to provide relief from symptoms of depression by enhancing serotonergic activity in the brain. They are also prescribed for conditions such as social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Tablets aim to reduce symptoms like persistent sadness, anxiety, or fear, improving the overall quality of life.
Warnings
Patients taking Tablets should be aware of an increased risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors, especially in children and adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder. Additionally, studies have linked the use of SSRIs like paroxetine with an increased risk of bone fractures during treatment, particularly in the early stages. Individuals with renal or hepatic impairments should take extra caution when using this medication, and dosage adjustments may be necessary.
Adverse Effects
Common side effects of Paromax Tablets include dizziness, headache, somnolence, and abnormal dreams. Serious adverse effects may include hyponatremia (low sodium levels), abnormal bleeding, or allergic reactions like angioedema. Although rare, seizures can occur in less than 0.1% of patients using this medication, so treatment should be discontinued if seizures develop.
Cautions
Paromax Tablets should not be used in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within two weeks of discontinuing MAOI treatment. Close monitoring is required for patients with a history of seizures or those taking medications that interact with paroxetine. Always consult your doctor before starting or stopping any medications while on Tablets.
